Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Please carefully follow these aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing of your tattoo. If you have any additional questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask. You may call us at (430) 200-4764 or contact us via Instagram or Facebook!
1. Keep Hands Clean
Do not continuously touch your tattoo if your hands are not clean — especially after touching your phone.
Do not allow others to touch your fresh tattoo.
2. Cleanse Properly
Properly cleanse the tattooed area 2–3 times per day, or when necessary, using an unscented antibacterial soap (such as Dial). Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a clean towel.
3. Apply Ointment
Apply the ointment provided by your artist or an over-the-counter option (Aquaphor is recommended) each time you wash the tattoo. Use a very small amount and rub it in completely. Avoid over-saturating the skin, as this can clog pores, cause breakouts, and negatively affect the healing process.
4. Avoid Sun & Water Exposure
For at least the first 2–6 weeks:
Minimize exposure to direct sunlight
Avoid swimming in fresh water, salt water, or chlorinated pools
5. Use Sterile Dressings if Needed
Use sterile bandages or dressings during healing if necessary — especially:
If your work environment may affect your open wound
If you cannot avoid sun contact
If you work closely with other people or pets
6. Second Skin Products
If using products such as Saniderm, Tegaderm, or other “second skin” products, follow your artist’s instructions carefully. If you are unsure, please contact our studio for assistance.
7. Healing Process Expectations
Peeling, light scabbing, and itching are normal stages of healing.
Do not scratch or peel scabs.
If itching becomes uncomfortable, you may ice the area (wrap frozen goods in a t-shirt before applying).
Hydrocortisone cream may be used to help relieve itching.
Your tattoo may peel similarly to a sunburn. As it heals, the color will begin to resurface.
8. Avoid Working Out
Working out is discouraged during the healing process (at least 2 - 3 weeks) due to increased risk of infection from:
Sweating over a fresh tattoo
Exposure to unsanitary gym environments
Accidental touching, bumping, or scratching on equipment
If you choose to workout, ensure you cleanse the area after and use caution.
9. Ask Your Artist
If you have any questions, ask your artist or a studio team member — not friends or family.
Do not use other people’s used ointments.
10. Watch for Infection
Consult a healthcare professional at the first sign of infection or allergic reaction. Report any diagnosed infection, allergic reaction, or other adverse reaction resulting from the tattoo to your artist for further assistance.
